Barber & Gent is part of an old school San Francisco barbering culture and tradition.  Located in the heart of Mission Street in Bernal Heights since 1980, Barber & Gent and its partner shop, Blanca's Art of Hair, have been serving the San Francisco community for over 38 years. Our company motto is, " Building Community One Haircut at a Time."

Blanca Flores 

The founder and owner of Blanca’s Art of Hair, is the master of all masters in the industry of hair. Blanca started the business in 1980 managing several locations throughout the San Francisco Mission District. Blanca is known for having the first unisex hair salon and barber shops in San Francisco. She is also known for being one of the first salons to provide permanent make-up and micro-blading services for women in the Bay Area. In the 80's Blanca held a hosted the popular radio show, “Beauty con Blanca" in the Spanish radio station, LA Grande 1010. Blanca has always been recognized as an industry leader, innovator, and coach to many other barbers and stylists. She has won many awards and certificates for her immaculate work ethic and for her exceptional professionalism.

On her own time Blanca enjoys cooking dishes inspired from different countries around the world and traveling. She a complete food and coffee snob. Blanca also enjoys reading many books.

Blanca has contributed to community in many ways!

Her passion for culinary arts and food creativity led her to launch another business  venture in the 80's.  Blanca owned a Nicaraguan restaurant called "Casa Blanca" near 25th Street and Mission Street. Later on in the 90's she changed the concept of her restaurant business and re-launched it with "Taqueria Hollywood". The menu style was very similar to that of the always super popular "La Taqueria".  She was recognized in the Mission District's taqueria community for being the first taqueria to break away from the traditional Mexican style pinto beans by introducing Central American style black beans as choice on the menu. Through the years many taquerias followed and applied this simple yet effective ingredient to their menus as well.

Promoting cleanliness, positivity and self esteem!

Every year in December Blanca likes to donate household supplies and hygienic materials to low-income families in her native country, Nicaragua.

Rafael Rodriguez

is one of San Francisco's most sought after barbers, hands down. Rafael has worked with Blanca's Art of Hair and Barber & Gent since 1998.  After riding with us for 20 plus years, Rafael is one of our senior master barbers.  His knowledge in barbering and cosmetology is very broad and extensive. Rafael knows mens precise haircuts, line-ups, classic straight-razor shaving. He is also one of the best in women styles, colors, etc. The Mission District knows Rafael! This man does it all!

Juan Carlos "J.C." Montemayor

is a local Bay Area barber and hair colorist. J.C. received his training from the well-known and prestigious Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology and Barbering. J.C. is a barber who thrives on perfection. He's always pushing himself to be the best. He pays close attention to the details when servicing his clientele. He loves creating clean looking cuts, and beard trims are his thing!

In his free time, he loves spending time with his wife and their beautiful baby daughter.

Reynaldo Salgado

Senior hairstylists and master barber Rey joins us back from a 10 year hiatus! Rey was working in several high-ed resorts in Costa Rica!  This year he decided it was time to come back home to the Bay. Rey is in high demand for his color expertise. He has worked with us at Blanca's and Barber & Gent in the past for 10 years before moving to Costa Rica.  He is truly one of the most talented stylists/barbers in SF. On his time off he loves talking to his son Joey about what schools Joey can possibly attend in the future. He also enjoys dancing bachata and salsa music.

Mina Nezhadazar

is our Persian rapid superstar Stylist from Iran! She speaks English, Persian, and Turkish!  Mina has being hair styling for 9 years and is a true color expert. She holds multiple licenses in various countries and was also certified in San Francisco for styling and design. She is very talented in both men's and women's hair cutting and coloring.

Ivan Gomez

is our own in-house master barber. Book a time with Ivan if you want nothing less the best in San Francisco. He loves the craft of classic barbering techniques fused with today’s contemporary styles, modern looks, and cutting edge tools. Efficiency is his strength. Ivan has been cutting hair for over 25 years and is a local celebrity favorite. Some of his clients include members of the Golden State Warriors organization, the San Francisco Giants organization, and some Bay Area public figures, to name a few. Ivan enjoys the deep understanding of sculpture design, sphere design principles, shadow/cast shadow principles, positive/ negative design theory, art design and balance theory. Ivan feels that to be a great barber you have to have fundamental art and design capacity and awareness. He attended 4 years at the Academy or Art University in the Graphic Design Bachelors of Fine Art program.

 

On his time off, Ivan freelances in graphic design, he's a single dad to his beloved daughter Ivanna. Ivan also teaches bilingual (English & Spanish) workshops in classic barbering techniques ("Authentic Real World Barbering with Ivan") held at various colleges, vocational institutions, non-profit organizations and various professional hair grooming locations throughout Northern California. Ivan is available for on-site services at private events, weddings, media, and educational platforms. 

Ivan is the man!
